Book Club Questions for Havoc at Harrison Hospital
1. Nora Brady is a student nurse, working in her community hospital. What were your first
thoughts about Harrison Hospital? Is it someplace you would consider working, even if
you knew that a murder had happened there? Why?
2. Working in a hospital as a nurse involves working with many other
providers—physicians, therapists, etc. What were your thoughts about some of these
people? Did it make you think about a nurse’s job in a hospital?
3. There are several disagreeable characters at Harrison Hospital. Who would you be least likely to trust? Why?
4. Who was your favorite character(s)? Why?
5. What did you think of the patient care at the hospital? Were the patients receiving good
patient care overall by the nurses? By the doctors?
6. What did you think of Frank and Sandy Gherig? Did they surprise you at any point?
7. Nora has many friends, including her landlady Stella. What did you think of her
friendships? Friends can play a definite role in the way a main character learns important
information. What kinds of information does Nora learn from her friends in this story?
8. Sometimes, Nora leaps before she thinks. Did you have concerns about some of the
situations where she placed herself? Which ones?
9. Were you surprised by the person(s) who committed the crimes? If you guessed, what
clues had you noticed? If you were surprised, who did you think it would have been
instead? Why?
10. Were you satisfied with the ending? Did it make sense and tie up all the loose ends? If
you weren’t satisfied, what left you hanging?
For those who have ever worked in a hospital, you will know that people are always bringing in food. This recipe, which is much like carrot cake, is an ever popular one to bring in for special occasions. Because I do love carrot cake, but because there are those unfortunate people out there who do not love carrot cake, I believe this recipe must have been designed on their behalf. I do, however, almost always added several cups of shredded carrots, as well as a handful of raisins. Like carrot cake, it has a wonderful cream cheese frosting. You can see that this card has also seen a lot of use. Enjoy!
